A round up of Local News in Redcar and Cleveland for Saturday 13th August 2016.

A local MP says news of a new biomass energy plant which is to be built at Teesport is a 'huge boost' for our area.

Responding to the announcement by MGT Teesside Limited that site work for a £650 million Tees Renewable Energy Plant will start within weeks, MP for Redcar Anna Turley said that it is brilliant to see the project reach the construction stage as the investment being made will deliver a huge boost to our local economy, creating skilled jobs for those who have lost work and generating business for firms in the local supply chain.

Anna said that the energy industry is already one of Teesside's key strengths and the project will build on that strength further.

She said that she is looking forward to seeing work start on the site and will do all I can to support MGT and to ensure local people and businesses reap the benefits of this major investment project.

Police are appealing for information after a distraction burglary occurred at a property in the Cleveland View area of Marske.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at around 11am when a man attended the 88-year-old's address and claimed he had lost his ball in the garden of her home and asked if he could look for it.

The victim allowed the man to have a look and she helped him to look for it. As the victim and the man were in the garden a second man entered the property and stole a large quantity of sentimental jewellery which includes a gold cygnet ring with single diamond, a 24 carat gold bracelet, and a pearl covered gold brooch.

It is believed similar distraction burglaries have also occurred in the North Yorkshire area and officers are connecting the incidents.

Anyone who may have been offered the items for sale or anyone who may have information regarding the burglary is asked to contact Detective Constable Nicola Moore on the non-emergency 101 number, Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

A local man from our area has seen a video of himself eating a burger go viral on social media.

A video clip recorded on a mobile phone shows a large fight going on outside a Redcar nightclub at the weekend, before panning to Jack, who is casually tucking into a burger with a cheeky grin on his face.

The video, which has been uploaded to several groups on Facebook, has been viewed over 200,000 times, with hundreds of people commenting on Jack's funny reaction.

Jack said he was just trying to enjoy his food, and wasn't really paying any attention to the fighting.

He said he was far more interested in eating the parmo burger he'd just bought, which he said was very good.
