Cleveland Police has welcomed a new Assistant Chief Constable to the Force and Simon Nickless spoke to Zetland FM...

Simon Nickless was successful in the recruitment process and joins Cleveland from Nottinghamshire Police where he was a Chief Superintendent.

He replaces Dave Pickard, who retired from the Force in April.

ACC Nickless said: “I’ve visited Cleveland a number of times prior to starting here last week, and I have been impressed by the dedication and commitment to serving our communities that I have seen so far from the Force.

Chief Constable of Jacqui Cheer said: “Simon brings with him a wealth of experience and was selected from a strong field of candidates. He will be an asset to the Chief Officer team.”

Simon’s policing career began in 1992 in Nottinghamshire where initially he performed a number of uniform roles, getting to know the local communities.

In 2000 he was successful in applying for the Accelerated Promotion scheme, which provided the opportunity to learn more about policing nationally.

In 2002, Simon took up his first command as Neighbourhood Inspector, the learning from which has played a significant role throughout the rest of his career, in particular the roll out of Neighbourhood Policing across Nottinghamshire. At the same time he also led the Citizen Focus programme aimed improving the quality of service to victims of crime and tackling the issues that matter to local communities.
