Fire crews were called to an address in New Marske yesterday afternoon following reports of a house fire.

Two appliances attended the property, where they extinguished what is being described as a 'small fire'.

It's reported that an elderly lady had to be given oxygen and looked after by neighbours following the incident.

It is not believed that there were any further injuries.

New figures have revealed that people in our area have £5,000 a year less in disposable income than people across England generally.

Data which has been released by the Office for National Statistics has revealed that, on average, households in Redcar and Cleveland are left with just over £14,000 a year after tax and housing costs - that works out at £1,169 a month to save or spend.

In comparison, across the country as a whole, the average household will have almost £19,500 a year once their mortgage or rent is paid for, or £1,621 a month.

The figures reveal that our area has one of the lowest levels of disposable income of anywhere in England.

Other parts of Teesside have seen even greater decreases in spending power, but remain better off than Redcar and Cleveland.

Business representatives from across our area invited to attend the Revitalize Redcar & Cleveland event this week. Revitalize are a business networking group who meet up monthly on the first Wednesday of the month.

The next event is June 7 from 7:30am till 9:00am at the Community Heart in Redcar.

Guest speakers include: Ainsley Mullen from Business Growth Team, Martin from Tweet Master, Karl from Lifeline Project and Helen from Inner City Digital.

Refreshments will be served.
