Members of Redcar Coastguard were called into action yesterday after reports of a person in the sea.

At 9 o'clock yesterday morning the Redcar Coastguard Rescue Team was paged by the Humber Coastguard to reports of a swimmer in trouble opposite the Lifeboat station in Redcar.

On arrival the casualty had already been seen to and released by ambulance personnel.

A short time later the casualty was seen again behaving erratically at the water's edge and a few team members went to investigate.

Police assistance was asked for and upon their arrival the person was taken into custody.

A busy road in our area had to be closed yesterday after a collision which saw one car flipped on its roof.

The crash happened at around ten past two yesterday afternoon outside the Cross Keys Pub on Middlesbrough Road between Nunthorpe and Guisborough.

A Ford Focus and Peugeot Sport were involved in the crash with one of the vehicles landing on its roof.

The road was closed by police and slow traffic built up on the A171 as a result.

Marton Road in Middlesbrough also faced heavy traffic as a result of motorists trying to find alternative routes.

The road re-opened shortly after 5pm.

TV series 'The Mighty Redcar' has come to an end, with the director of the series making an appearance in town last night.

Dan Dewsbury from 72 Films was guest of honour at the Gypsy Rover Micropub in Redcar, where he watched the final episode air alongside some of the characters from the programme.

He then took part in a question and answer session about the series.

Jackie Pink is the landlady of the Gypsy Rover.
