Two men had a lucky escape when their rigid inflatable boat capsized in surf near the South Gare at Redcar yesterday.

The pair were thrown into the sea and had to swim to the shore for safety.

Their craft was washed onto rocks close to the lighthouse at the entrance to the River Tees.

Both RNLI lifeboats from Redcar and a coastguard rescue team were tasked just after 11.30 yesterday morning after the men were seen waving for help.

When the lifeboat arrived the crews found the men were in the care of the coastguard team and were safe and well.

The lifeboats then stood by until the rising tide allowed the smaller inshore lifeboat to tow the craft off the rocks.

It was then towed into the Tees where the RNLI crews were able to get it onto its trailer.

Police are appealing for information after a property was burgled on Virginia Gardens in Middlesbrough.

The incident occurred on Thursday 20th September at 12:15am when people entered the property and stole sentimental jewellery including rings, watches, bracelets, Royal Dalton Ornaments and a Tiffany lamp.

Money and medication was also stolen from the property.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have been offered the items for sale or anyone with information in relation to the burglary to contact DC Abby Freeman from Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The funeral has taken place for homeless man Michael Cash whose death touched the hearts of people in our area.

Family and friends gathered at Kirkleatham Crematorium yesterday heard how the popular former Gilbrook pupil had lost his way after the death of his beloved mum.

As reported, Mr Cash’s body was found in Eston Cemetery on Wednesday, September 12.

The tragic death of the homeless 32-year-old was widely reported after it emerged he had been the victim of an alleged assault just days earlier.
