A busy road in our area was brought to a standstill yesterday after protests from workers.

A demonstration was held yesterday afternoon at the A66 near to Teesport roundabout in a protest over safety at the MGT Power plant.

The protests caused slow traffic on the A66 and surrounding routes, including the A1053 Tees Dock Road.

The protests follow disruption in the same place earlier this year.

Around 400 protesters were involved in the protest, and they have warned there are likely to be further protests later today.

Two women who threw themselves in harm’s way to help police stop a violent suspect have had their bravery recognised.

Marie Warren and Elizabeth White came across PC Liam Sewell struggling to detain a violent suspect who had tried to get away on an off-road bike in Middlesbrough.

Marie and Elizabeth came to the officer’s assistance and together they were able to restrain him until more officers arrived on the scene.

The suspect has now pleaded guilty to various offences at court.

Both women were presented with a Chief Constable’s Brave Citizen’s Award at a ceremony held at the Riverside Stadium.

The annual search for Redcar and Cleveland's Inspiring Women is on, with a call for people to nominate local heroes who have made a significant impact in our community.

It's already a trademark of the awards that the people who are nominated come from many sectors.

Every year, the project also organises work shadowing opportunities for girls in Years 10, 11 and 12, with women in local politics, business and radio.

The Inspiring Women Awards is taking place on International Women's Day, Friday 8th March 2019.

To nominate a local, Inspiring Woman, please visit the Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council website.
