The total number of reported Coronavirus cases in our area has shown another increase in the past 24 hours, according to official figures.

According to the latest figures published yesterday by Public Health England, there have now been 399 confirmed Coronavirus cases in Redcar and Cleveland, out of a local population of just under 137,000 people.

That figure has increased from 391 confirmed cases since yesterday.

There are have been 652 cases confirmed in Middlesbrough, that figure has also risen from 645 yesterday.

Two people have been arrested following a reported burglary in Middlesbrough.

Officers arrested a 32 year old man and a 31 year old woman on suspicion of burglary yesterday following a reported burglary at a property on Maddren Way in Middlesbrough on Wednesday.

A phone and other items were reportedly taken from the property.

The man and woman were taken into custody whilst enquiries continue.

Anyone with any information regarding the burglary is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101.

Council-run car parks in Saltburn and other popular beauty spots in Redcar and Cleveland will remain closed this Bank Holiday Weekend despite a plea from a local councillor.

Councillor Philip Thomson, who represents Saltburn, had written to the authority to request a phased re-opening of some car parks and also complained of some motorists parking in a “hazardous” fashion.

Cllr Thomson requested that the Pier car park in Saltburn be opened on Bank Holiday Monday and thereafter.

But council chiefs said they were sticking with a cautious approach to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and no changes would be made until early June.
