A further 164 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed across Teesside.

Middlesbrough recorded 21 new cases, one of the lowest figures of the second wave and down 60% on last Sunday.

Public Health England figures released on Sunday showed Stockton had the most positive tests with 86 new cases, the only area of Teesside where it was higher than last week.

Here in Redcar and Cleveland there were a further 27 confirmed cases.

Police have confirmed that a body found in a wooded area near to Baldoon Sands in Acklam on Saturday is that of missing man Wayne Newton.

The 41-year-old had been missing from Middlesbrough for more than a month.

Wayne’s family have been informed and they are being supported by specially trained officers.

Officers say that they are not treating the death as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.

The volunteers of the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team were deployed at the weekend after a man took ill on Roseberry Topping.

The team were contacted at shortly after 1.20 on Saturday afternoon by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assist them with the man at the landmark.

A number of Team members were deployed and when the first of them arrived at the scene they gave assistance to the man.

A short time later he was well enough to walk to the Team’s Land Rover Ambulance and was driven to a nearby farm where an ambulance was waiting.

By then the man had declared himself fit enough to travel home so the Mountain Rescue Team transported him and a relative back to their car to make their own way home.
