The Redcar RNLI lifeboat was launched in freezing conditions to search for a missing man on Friday evening.

The man had been reported missing earlier in the day from Marske.

Extensive searches were carried out by police officers and the police helicopter, together with Coastguard rescue and the Cleveland Mountain Rescue teams.

At 10.15pm the Redcar lifeboat was launched in temperatures quickly falling below zero Celsius to search between Saltburn and Skinningrove.

Using a hand-held themal imaging device, the lifeboat crew were able to guide a Coastguard rescue team to the man's location where they found the man alive and were able to assist him to nearby paramedics for assessment and treatment.

The volunteers of the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team have been called into action in our area.

The team were contacted shortly before 10am on Saturday by the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust with a request to attend to an injured walker in Hutton Low Woods just south of Guisborough.

It was found that the man had sustained a lower leg injury and so he was treated by Team members, including by administering pain relief.

He was then ‘packaged’ in a casualty bag, placed on a stretcher and transported down to the waiting ambulance for onward transport to hospital.

From today there are a number of changes at Coronavirus asymptomatic testing centres in Redcar and South Bank.

The testing centre at Golden Boy Green in South Bank will only operate as a collection point for home testing kits from today with opening hours remaining the same.

The testing centre in the Redcar Heart sports hall has now relocated to the library located in Redcar and Cleveland House just across the road.

There are no changes to the testing centre in Loftus Fire Station.

You can find more information about testing and how to book a test on the Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council website.
