A man has had to be freed from his vehicle following a crash just yards from James Cook University Hospital.

Police closed Marton Road on Monday night as firefighters cut free a man from inside a Vauxhall Astra after it collided with a BMW.

One man was taken to hospital to be treated for a leg injury.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Officials spent much of Monday night cleaning debris from the road while Cleveland Fire and Rescue cleared fuel from the road.

The volunteer crew of the Redcar RNLI lifeboat have been called into action in our area.

Just before 4.30 yesterday afternoon the Atlantic 85 lifeboat was launched to assist a yacht.

The lifeboat towed the yacht to Paddy's Hole at South Gare.

The crew were then able to return to the lifeboat station.

Refugees fleeing from Afghanistan have been arriving in Redcar and Cleveland.

Two families who worked for the British in Afghanistan have already settled in our borough under existing resettlement schemes from the war-torn country following the Taliban takeover.

Now the council has pledged to accept more Afghans under the latest Government scheme, the details of which are still being finalised.
