Retail premises across our area have been searched by officers from the Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council Trading Standards team as part of Operation CeCe, a National Trading Standards and HMRC operation to tackle the supply of illicit tobacco and cigarettes.

The one-day investigation covered both urban and rural areas in the borough.

4880 cigarettes with the value of almost £2200 were seized together with almost £2000 worth of Hand Rolling Tobacco. In addition, counterfeit wine was also seized from one of the premises visited.

Further action will be taken against the premises where the tobacco and alcohol were found.

Police are appealing for the publics help to reunite a number of suspected stolen items with their owners.

Officers recovered a number of suspected stolen items, including rings, watches and souvenir coins at two addresses in the Redcar area on Monday.

Two men, aged 40 and 42, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and were taken into police custody.

Officers are seeking to identify the owners of the suspected stolen items and would ask anyone who believes that they can identify who they belong to, to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.

You can view the recovered items on the Cleveland Police Facebook page.

A local councillor has begun a 12 night sleep out to raise money for charity.

In the run-up to Remembrance Sunday, Councillor Barry Hunt will be spending a night on the streets at 12 different Redcar and East Cleveland war memorials, in aid of SSAFA – the Soldiers’, Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families Association.

It is not the first time Cllr Hunt has raised money for our armed forces and veterans, previously completing an 11-night sleepout whilst Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, and raising a whopping £15,500.

He’s hoping to smash this target this time... and all at the age of 73 years old!
