Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information after a burglary at the Tesco Extra store on the Trunk Road in South Bank.

The incident happened around 6:50pm on Sunday when four males attended the store on two motor scooters.

Two of the four suspects caused damage to the front windows and entered the store, jumped over the Kiosk counter and caused damage to the cigarette/tobacco display, putting a large quantity of stock into a distinctive large green bag.

A member of staff challenged the suspects, grabbing the bag and recovering the items stolen.

The four suspects then fled the scene on the scooters.

Anyone with information or any witnesses are asked to contact Redcar and Cleveland CID on the non-emergency number 101.

Police are appealing after a fire at a property in Coulby Newham, which is being investigated as arson.

The occupants, a 33-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, managed to get out of the property but suffered smoke inhalation.

Anyone who may have information or may have witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have noticed anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident, is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101.
