Guisborough Town manager Chris Hardy looks ahead to the coming Northern League season, which starts on Saturday.

By Guisborough Town manager Chris Hardy

Saturday sees the start of season 20114/15, having had what can only be described as a fantastic season 2013/14, finishing 4th and winning the North Riding senior cup, this creates a bench mark and one that we will certainly aiming to try and improve upon for the coming season.

With the departure of Roberts and Johnson also the retirement of Bishop, all three players being integral in there efforts to last seasons achievements, finding replacements was always  going to prove to be a big task.

Coming in, Nathan mulligan formally of whitby, Danny Earl formally of Bishop Auckland, Nathan Jameson formally of Shildon, Chay Liddle formally of Spennymoor, Danny McWilliams formally of Synners, Matty McQueenie formally of Acklam Steelworks, also the stepping up of Andrew May from our development team and finally the capture of Nick Liversedge rounded off the summer activity in the transfer market.

Then it was onto our busy preseason schedule where the lads completed a tough programme consisting of 4 weeks intense anaerobic sessions followed by 8 pre season friendlies.

Sat 12 Jul Spennymoor Town 3 Guisborough Town 2 (Mulligan, Hume)

Tue 15 Jul Guisborough Town 1 (Mulligan) Whitby Town 2

Thu 17 Jul Stockton Town 0 Guisborough Town 1 (Round)

Sat 19 Jul Billingham Town 1 Guisborough Town 3 (Mulligan, McPhillips, Jameson)

Wed 23 Jul Guisborough Town 3 Shildon 1 (Mulligan 2, Bulmer)

Sat 26 Jul Thornaby 1 Guisborough Town 0

Sat 02 Aug Norton & Stockton 0 Guisborough Town 2 (Roddam, McQueeney)

Tue 05 Aug Stokesley 0 Guisborough Town 8 (Risbrough, Mulligan 3, Round, McQueeney, Earl 2)

Winning 5 games and losing 3, scoring 20 goals along the way concluded our schedule.

The highlights were a convincing win against Shildon and Mulligan managing a goal tally of 8 goals over the 8 games.

We now switch our attentions to Saturday for our opening league fixture against Bedlington Terriers.

Preseason has been very productive and the players have been prepped and drilled to hopefully maximise our returns throughout the season, the lads are chomping at the bit to get started now and know the importance of a good start.

Bedlington themselves have been busy over the summer with the appointment of a new manager and with this comes new players, so I'm sure that Bedlington will be looking forward to the coming season where they will be wanting to make a impact in the league for this coming campaign.

For these reasons we are expecting a tough encounter for our opener and know that if we are not at our best then I'm sure our opponents will look to capitalise on this.

Here's hopefully to a exciting and successful season 2014/15......
