Fishermen and conservationists across Teesside are planning to stage a protest near a dredging spoil site they believe is killing marine life and causing dead crustaceans to wash up on the region's beaches.
Boats from Redcar, Hartlepool, Whitby and Scarborough will sail to South Gare near the mouth of the River Tees later today, displaying banners and flags in protest at the decimation of their livelihoods caused by the mass die off of lobsters and crabs last October.
An official government investigation concluded an algal bloom was mostly likely to blame for the strange occurrence but the fishermen refute the theory. Instead, they believe the blame lies with unearthing of historical toxins caused by dredging on the river.
In a show of solidarity to the fishermen, people representing organisations including Surfers Against Sewage, Ocean Rebellion, British Divers Marine Life Rescue as well as concerned members of the public are expected to head to South Gare.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information after a 22-year-old man suffered a stab wound after being assaulted in Normanby.
The incident happened in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 18th May, around 12:50am and is believed to have taken place outside of Jacks of Normanby at the junction of Normanby Road and Normanby High Street.
The man was taken to James Cook University Hospital where he remains whilst receiving treatment.
There are believed to have been three suspects, two of whom were wearing dark clothes and balaclavas.
Two are believed to have been riding a motorbike.
Any witnesses or anyone with information, CCTV or dash cam footage which could assist the investigation is asked to contact Redcar and Cleveland CID on the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
New designs have revealed the proposed transformation of Coronation Park in Loftus, and Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council wants you to have your say.
The vision for Coronation Park is to transform it from an outdated public park into a vibrant, multi-functional space.
It will create access to the new Duncan Place community hub and new library building via a tree-lined boulevard and new steps from Zetland Road, as well as create a new memorial garden with rose planting to reflect the original central feature of the park.
A grassed events space will also be created as well as a natural play area, an outdoor reading area, and improved lighting and CCTV.
A 17-space car park and minibus drop off area is also being proposed.
Members of the public can view a video explainer of the proposed changes on the Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council's website.
Hard copies of the plans are also available at Loftus Library and Floral Craft shop in Loftus.
