Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council will be hosting a clean-up of the town’s beaches as part of the now annual Great British Beach Clean.

The litter pick, being held in partnership with the Marine Conservation Society, is appealing for volunteers in order to help survey and pick up the litter on the beach.

Running from 10am till 12pm on Friday 19th September, the litter pick will start from Majuba Road Car Park.

The clean-up operation is vital for keeping Redcar’s beaches looking ship shape and appealing to visitors that want to make the most of the areas golden sands.

Councillor Christopher Massey, Cabinet Member for Environment and Rural Affairs said: “The Great British Beach Clean is a great activity to help Redcar & Cleveland remain looking its best.

“It would be brilliant if the volunteer turnout is high because it really brings a sense of community spirit to the clean-up which complements existing Council environmental services.”

Volunteers of all ages are welcome, with under 18s accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Litter picks, bags, gloves and the appropriate materials for surveying the amount of litter on the beach will be provided by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council. All volunteers need to bring are sturdy shoes and warm clothes.
