Free Parking In The Run Up To Christmas
Redcar and Cleveland Council have announced that Parking will be free after 1pm in Council Car Parks from Monday until the New Year.
It's been introduced two months early in a bid to attract shoppers into Town Centres as the Festive season approaches and includes all council-run pay and display locations, including street pay, display bays and off-street pay and display car parks.
The Council’s cabinet member for Community Safety, Councillor Steve Goldswain said: “We recognise that traders are facing tough economic times and some of them cannot wait any longer. By offering free parking we hope we can tempt people back to our high streets which offer a unique mix of big names, independent retailers and an enjoyable atmosphere. We also want to encourage people to support the borough’s retailers who make such a significant contribution to our economy.
The council is currently carrying out a borough-wide parking review and this announcement is soon after hard-pressed Redcar traders handed in a 10,000 name petition, calling for action on parking charges.
Stickers are being placed on Pay & Display machines to inform motorists of the changes, with parking restrictions and charges still in force from 8am-1pm.
