A court has heard how a care worker from our area was caught on CCTV drinking pensioners' morphine.
37-year-old Gemma Coleman was seen "drinking from two bottles on several occasions" at Gracelands Care Home, on Belmangate in Guisborough.
She later began topping up the medicine bottles, after she had drunk from them, with water.
Teesside Crown Court heard that managers began reviewing the CCTV at the home when they noticed some morphine was missing last year.
Coleman, of Woodside in Brotton, pleaded guilty to theft at a previous hearing.
Coleman was handed a six-month prison term, suspended for 12-months.
She must also carry out 100-hours of unpaid work.
Thousands of spectators attended the first East Cleveland Classic cycle race in our area yesterday.
A total of 63 riders took part in the men's race with 22-year-old Rowan Baker from London winning and Tim Shoreman and James McKay taking second and third.
Some 40 women raced in the inaugural women’s race with 17-year-old Cat Ferguson from Ilkley in West Yorkshire taking first place, with Eilidh Shaw and Imogen Wolff in second and third.
But it wasn’t all about the elite racing- residents and visitors also had the chance to enjoy street entertainers, music and some brilliant artwork made by villagers and shops along the route.
The sun shone as well which made the day even more special and helped to highlight the beauty of the countryside and coast in our area to cycling fans from across the country.
