Police are appealing for information following a collision involving a scooter in Redcar.
At around 8.15pm lat Thursday the electric scooter was being ridden along Redcar Lane when it failed to stop at a red light as it reached the crossroads with Lord Street.
The scooter then collided with a car that was travelling westbound through the crossroads.
It caused the rider and the pillion passenger to fall from the scooter, resulting in the rider sustaining a serious injury and the passenger suffering minor grazes to his hand.
Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has CCTV or dash cam footage to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.
A new initiative to enrol children in our area for free school meals automatically has been approved.
The scheme aims to increase the number of children registering for the free meals - saving families hundreds of pounds a year.
Currently families have to opt-in to register for free school meals however Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has gained approval to progress the pilot scheme, which will start from September, meaning all children entitled to the meals will be automatically enrolled.
Hundreds of households will benefit from the new registration scheme, although parents and guardians will be able to opt-out if they wish.
The Council will use its existing data to confirm eligibility and households in the borough will receive a letter about the pilot scheme in the coming days.
As well as saving families about £400 a year per child, greater enrolment could lead to extra Government funding amounting to hundreds of thousands of pounds for schools across the borough.
It's been revealed that Redcar and Cleveland is becoming even more dog-friendly, with more cafes, restaurants, venues – and even a cinema – introducing dog friendly measures.
Now special 'dog friendly' stickers are to be distributed to venues across the borough highlighting all the places visitors can enjoy while taking their dogs.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has been promoting all the dog friendly venues, including guest houses and hotels – on a dedicated website for the last year and has had a big response from both businesses and the public.
The number of dog friendly venues in our borough has increased from 53 last year to 103 which are now listed on the Council's website.
