105FM :: Local Radio for Redcar & Cleveland

Resurfacing works on a stretch of the A174 will be incorporated with gas main repairs in order to minimise inconvenience for residents of Redcar & Cleveland.

While the council resurfaces the road, Northern Gas Networks will make the most of the road closure by repairing leaks on gas mains running close to the stretch of road between the Skelton Castle roundabout and Four lanes end.

However, due to the extent of the work the road will not reopen overnight as initially planned and will instead remained closed from 7.30am on Tuesday 28th October until the resurfacing work is due to end at 6.00pm on Friday 31st October, weather permitting.

After the council’s work has finished, work to the gas mains will continue for another three weeks with temporary traffic lights in operation to minimise further disruption.

Councillor Helen McLuckie, cabinet member for highways, planning & transport, said: “We apologise for the inconvenience this overnight closure will cause for residents in East Cleveland. However, we hope that by incorporating both the resurfacing and gas works into one closure, the potential for further disruption down the line can be avoided.”
