Prospective MP for the Redcar Constituency Cllr Josh Mason and sitting MP Ian Swales MP visited Rye Hills today to speak to the whole school about democracy, politics and the importance of having your say on election day.

Speaking to years 7-11, Ian Swales and Cllr Josh Mason chatted to students about the political system in the UK and how they came to be elected in their positions as MP, Councillor and Prospective Parliamentary Candidate.

Commenting, Ian Swales said: “It’s always a pleasure to be invited along to schools to chat to young people about the importance of politics and voting. Today was no exception and it is great to see this local school engaging their children in the political process.”

Josh Mason said: “As a prospective MP for Redcar Constituency it’s great to speak to teachers and pupils about what issues matter to them and to engage them with the political process locally as well as nationally.

“It’s vital that young people are well informed on these issues so they feel able to participate in the political process.

“We have some excellent schools in this area and I’d love to engage more with them to help equip young people to have their say on polling day.”
