VISITORS to the new leisure centre in Redcar will have to pay to use the car park.

Officials from operator Everyone Active said the charges would be in force in the short stay car park between 8.30am and 4pm.

They told a meeting of Saltburn, Marske and New Marske Parish Council, this was not an ideal situation from an operator's point of view and they had been in touch with Redcar and Cleveland Council in an effort to keep the charging period as short as possible.

The £31m complex is due to open on Saturday, April 26. Facilities include a swimming pool, fitness suite, register office and conference rooms.

It will also house a new council chamber, mayor's parlour, business units and retail space.

Everyone Active is also looking into the possibility of providing a lift at Saltburn Leisure Centre.

Funding is currently being sought and parish councillors recorded their support for the bid.
