A cyclist had to be taken to hospital with a fractured jaw and eye socket after being involved with a collision with a vehicle in Redcar.

The 41-year-old man was cycling on Staithes Road at its junction with Huntcliffe Avenue in Dormanstown in Redcar at 11.20pm on Thursday when the collision took place.

The man was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough where he received treatment for his injuries.

He was later released.

Cleveland Police are asking for anyone with information on who was driving the car, which failed to stop at the scene, to come forward with any information or dash cam footage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Jayson Morris of the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit via the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A Redcar businessman has expressed his concern after his shop’s rooftop air conditioning unit had been targetted by would-be thieves.

John Chapman, the managing director of Blink Eye Wear on Redcar High Street, arrived at work to find the heavy metal air conditioning unit in pieces in a car park at the back of the shop.

It had been thrown from the roof the night before.

John says that the incident caused £6,000 worth of damage in an attempt to steal £20 worth of scrap metal.

The incident comes just days after raiders targetted the roof of the Redcar boathouse and cafe in Locke Park.

Anyone with information about either incident can contact Cleveland Police on 101.

There's an opportunity to chat to officers from your neighbourhood policing team this weekend.

Local officers will be at Sainsbury's in Saltburn today between 2:30 and 4pm.

The event is an opportunity for people to raise local issues with officers, and to get advice to join Cleveland Connected, which is an initiative to reduce crime from Cleveland Police.
