The latest figures show that 139 new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed on Teesside in the past 24 hours.

According to data released by Public Health England yesterday, Middlesbrough recorded the highest number of cases with 44, whilst in Stockton there were a further 40.

Here in Redcar and Cleveland there were a further 32 new confirmed cases.

Emergency services were called after a van was spotted at the foot of cliffs in our area yesterday.

At around 7.15 yesterday morning police and members of the Coastguard attended after the van was found at the base of cliffs at Cowbar.

Sadly, the driver, who was a local man, was found dead in the vehicle.

The man has not yet been formally identified, however, his family have been informed and our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time.

The death is being treated as unexplained at this time, and police officers are continuing with their enquiries into the circumstances that led up to the vehicle being discovered at the base of the cliffs.

Police have issued an arrest update as they continue to investigate the alleged murder of Steven Clark from Marske.

Steven vanished aged 23 on December 28, 1992, after going into public toilets in Saltburn while out walking with his parents.

His disappearance remained a mystery for decades, until Cleveland Police reopened the cold case and launched a murder probe.

Two people were later arrested by detectives, and have now been released under investigation, having previously been released on bail.
