A man who murdered a two-year-old girl he had been trusted to look after as she sat in her high chair has been jailed.

Two-year-old Grace Thorpe had been left with her mother's then-partner Adam Jackson at her home on Dale Street, in New Marske, on November 10th last year.

The court heard how Grace had suffered multiple injuries, and she was flown to a specialist children's unit in Newcastle, where she sadly died.

At Teesside Crown Court yesterday, 27-year-old Mr Jackson admitted murder and was jailed for life with a minimum term of 16-and-a-half years.

The latest figures have shown that a town in our area currently has the coronavirus infection rate on Teesside.

Figures released by Public Heath England, show that Saltburn currently has an infection rate of 973.6 and 59 people have contracted the virus.

The data has been collected by Public Health England in the seven days leading up to November 23rd.

Police are appealing for information from the public after a man was found with serious head injuries in Middlesbrough.

The 46-year-old man was located by police on Victoria Street around twenty to midnight on Sunday, with serious head injuries.

He was taken to James Cook University Hospital, where he remains in a "critical" condition whilst receiving treatment.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances of how the man came about his injuries and would appeal to members of the public on Victoria Street and in the surrounding areas to check any private CCTV.

Police are also appealing to anyone in the area who may have heard or seen anything suspicious last night to get in touch with them on the non-emergency number 101.
