One person had to be taken to hospital following an early morning house fire in our area.

Firefighters were called to the scene, on Lilac Close in Lazenby, at 2am on Sunday morning.

The semi-detached house suffered complete heat and smoke damage during the fire.

The neighbouring property also suffered light smoke damage as a result of the blaze.

Three engines from Grangetown and Middlesbrough were called to the scene to tackle the fire and remained at the property for around two hours and 45 minutes.

A man is set to appear at crown court after being charged with a firearms offence in Middlesbrough.

26-year-old Callum Lindsay of Garnet Street in Middlesbrough appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court yesterday to face two charges, of criminal damage to property and with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, in connection with an alleged incident on Parliament Road on Friday night.

Mr Lindsay did not enter a plea to the charges. The Justices declined jurisdiction and transferred the case to Teesside Crown Court.

Lindsay, of Garnet Street, Middlesbrough, was remanded into custody and will next appear before a judge for a plea and trial preparation hearing on 25th April.

At least three Cleveland Police vehicles stopped traffic outside The Southern Cross at around 11.30am.
