A court has heard how a Redcar man stole over £300 worth of household goods during a crime spree in the town.

Teesside Magistrates' Court heard how Stephen Swinnerton admitted to stealing a number of household items from Morrisons and B&M in Redcar on April 23rd.

The incident, which occurred at around 11am, saw the 46-year-old take £286.25 worth of goods from Morrisons and £54.20's worth from B&M.

Swinnerton, of Lytton Street in Redcar, plead guilty to two counts of theft and admitted that he was under the influence of zopiclone at the time of the incident.

He was given a six-month community order, an eight-week curfew from 7pm until 7am, and received a court bill of £180.

Police have provided an update after a car smashed into a wall in Dormanstown on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened around 5pm, when a white Hyundai I10 collided with the wall on Park Court, backing onto Broadway East.

At the scene, large chunks of car debris were visible in the rubble with the wall completely destroyed in the smash.

No one was reportedly hurt in the incident, but a number of males reportedly made off from the scene after crashing into the wall.

With tyre marks coming from the road and onto the pavement, it is likely the car veered from the main road through Dormanstown and collided with the back garden wall.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, and police say their enquiries are ongoing.

Members of the public are being invited to come along and meet their local police community support officers.

PCSO Avril Simmons will be at 25K, on Ayton Drive in Redcar later today, to speak to local residents about any issues or concerns.

PCSO Simmons will be available to chat and answer questions between 11am and midday today.
