A suspected 'toxic gas' leak at Teesport has been declared a false alarm after emergency services were called to the scene yesterday.

Just before 5.30pm yesterday afternoon, roads in the area were closed whilst Cleveland Police, Cleveland Fire Brigade, and the North East Ambulance Service attended Teesport after a liquid bulk tank with a suspected leak was detected at a container terminal.

However the incident was later declared a false alarm, with a spokesperson from PD Ports confirming that there was no leak and therefore no release of any chemical.

The roads around the port re-opened a short time later.

Police have arrested two males in connection with an incident in the early hours of yesterday morning in Grangetown.

The incident occurred around 1:10am on Adshead Road when a man aged in his twenties suffered a severe facial injury in an assault and he was taken to hospital for treatment.

Two men aged 21 and 23 were arrested in connection with the incident and were taken into police custody.

Neighbourhood officers will be carrying out reassurance patrols in the local area.

Any witnesses are asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101.
