A man has been sentenced to more than eight years after pleading guilty to offences including entering the grounds of a school when in possession of a knife.

On Thursday 19-year-old Ryan Anderson was sentenced to serve eight years and 10 months in prison after pleading guilty to nine offences including two robberies, an assault and possession of a bladed article.

The court heard how in May 2021 Anderson was reportedly involved in a fight, during which he entered the grounds of a Berwick Hills primary school, forcing the school to go into lockdown.

A police spokesperson welcomed the sentence which shows that those who carry knives and cause fear in their communities in this way will be dealt with robustly.

Neighbourhood officers in Middlesbrough siezed suspected drugs and cash in the Gresham area after carrying our a drugs warrant in Middlesbrough yesterday morning.

The officers responded to reports from members of the community of drugs activity in the alley ways around Lonsdale Street.

Suspected crack cocaine and cash was seized in the operation.

A woman aged 32 and two men aged 24 and 46 were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Anyone with information regarding drugs activity in our local area is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101.

Fire engines at stations across the Cleveland area will be turning alarm lights on for two minutes to “go blue” in support of World Drowning Prevention Day this coming Monday.

Drowning in the UK is amongst the leading causes of accidental death and the dangers are heightened during school holidays and the hotter summer days.

Young people are most vulnerable, as many are unaware of the dangers of jumping into cold water in hot weather and are prone to taking risks in unsafe waters without adults around.

Brigade crews will also be linking up with RNLI and coastguards to issue #RespectTheWater messages.
