Teesside Hospice say that they have made the decision to take down their display of hand-crafted sunflowers that were installed along Saltburn Pier.

The organisation says that in the past couple of weeks anti-social behaviour has plagued its Sunflower Memories display.

It has also had a profound affect on its supporters who chose to purchase a sunflower in memory of a lost loved one.

In total, more than 40 sunflowers have been damaged or stolen, including the Sunflower Memories banner, which was torn from one side to the other.

As a result, the hospice is set to take down the display later today.

Approximately £1,700 worth of damage has been caused, as well as distress for the many people who had sunflowers etched in memory with the names of their loved ones.

All supporters that have had sunflowers affected by this vandalism have been contacted.

A man has been charged with alleged driving offences after a vehicle reportedly failed to stop for roads policing officers in Middlesbrough.

The alleged incident happened around 12:50pm on Monday when a Ford Transit van was reported to have failed to stop for police on Breckon Hill Road and was then allegedly driven dangerously along the A66, A19 and into Eston before a man was arrested.

A 32-year-old man was later charged with dangerous driving, no insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

He is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court on Wednesday 31st August.

A search of the vehicle also uncovered thousands of pounds in cash, which was seized.

The man was further arrested on suspicion of possession of criminal property and was released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.
