...and householders across Redcar and Cleveland are again being reminded to always lock their doors and windows and keep vehicle keys safely locked away or out of sight, especially overnight - after an increase in 2 in 1 burglaries across our area.

 

Roads policing officers have arrested a 23-year-old man after a vehicle failed to stop in Normanby.

The incident happened at around 9:15pm on Thursday on Holmefields Road when a Ford Focus failed to stop for officers.

The vehicle collided with a fence and the driver and front seat passenger made off from the vehicle.

A machete and suspected class A drugs were recovered from the vehicle and a 23-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody.

Police say their enquiries are ongoing.

 

A 37-year-old man has been arrested after a report of an attempted break-in in Middlesbrough.

The man was arrested on Thursday at 8.35pm in the area of Marton Grove Road after a member of the public spotted a man who was reportedly trying to break into a property.

Officers attended the area and arrested a male nearby on suspicion of attempted burglary.

The man was taken into police custody.

A 2 in 1 burglary is when burglars break into houses and then steal vehicles using the owners' keys.

Since 1st April, there have been 2 in 1 burglaries at insecure properties in Hutton, Kirkleatham, Normanby, South Bank, Teesville and West Dyke.

The vehicles stolen have been various makes and ALL the recent incidents happened where door had been left insecure.

The offences mainly took place overnight between 8pm and 5am and some of the vehicles were later recovered.
