Police are appealing after a man was assaulted in a nightclub in Middlesbrough.

The incident occurred in Flares on Albert Road, in the early hours of yesterday morning, when a 23-year-old man was punched by another man, leaving him with a fractured jaw.

The man remains at James Cook University Hospital receiving treatment for his injuries, which may include surgery.

The suspect is described as a white male, aged around 40 years old, short, stocky and with dark hair.

Detectives are investigating and are appealing with information to call them on the non-emergency number 101.

A man has appeared in court charged with criminal damage and affray following an incident at the Children's Centre in Hemlington.

Just after 3pm on Friday afternoon the man allegedly entered the premises and caused criminal damage to internal doors and windows.

All children and staff in the centre were immediately evacuated to the neighbouring school and all were safe, unharmed and accounted for, with no reports of anyone being injured.

The 47-year-old man appeared at Teesside Magistrates Court yesterday.

It's been revealed that 87 knives were removed from our area's streets during last week's Operation Sceptre.

Operation Sceptre is an initiative to tackle knife crime across the country, and last week all 43 forces across England and Wales, along with the British Transport Police, took part in intensified efforts to crack down on knife enabled crime and violence.

63 of the knives recovered in Cleveland were surrendered anonymously to the amnesty bins in police station during the week of action.

Police officers stopped and searched 179 people resulting in the recovery of a further 11 knives.

A staggering total of 381 arrests were made across the area throughout the week, with 23 of these a direct result of Operation Sceptre activity.
