A HGV came off the road yesterday near sparking a full road closure on Wilton Lane.

Redcar and Cleveland Council closed the road, both at the Guisborough side and the A174 Lazenby Bypass side, after the incident at Court Green Farm.

The heavy goods vehicle was currently blocking the whole carriageway - with no through route available for motorists.

The time of the incident has not yet been confirmed by the council.

A shop which sold illegal vapes to minors and was also responsible for under-age alcohol sales has been shut down for three months.

Boro 24, on Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough, was described as a “problematic” premises in a prosecution brought by Middlesbrough Council.

282 so-called non-compliant “high puff” vapes were found at the shop, while drug-related paraphernalia was also present, including grinders and grip seal plastic bags.

A dead rat was also found in a cupboard during one visit by council officers.

It's been revealed that the process of removing contaminated materials from the former Redcar steelworks site - now known as Teesworks - is being held up because of limited capacity elsewhere to dispose of it.

It is still hoped the so-called top tier hazardous substances status attached to the site could be lifted by the end of the year.

Demolition of the former steel making structures is now complete with the materials remaining being kept in sealed containers in various places around the site.

However the chief executive of the South Tees Development Corporation, which has responsibility for regenerating vast swathes of land to the south of the River Tees, said moving the “sheer amount of stuff” was taking longer than it would like.
