Residents and business in our area are continuing to take precautions after Storm Babet hit our area yesterday.

A Yellow Warning was put in force by the Environment Agency yesterday as Redcar and Cleveland experienced heavy rain, gales and large waves.

Council Highway Operatives deployed sandbags across various locations throughout the borough, including in Loftus, Skelton and Carlin How in East Cleveland.

Environment Agency officers and partner agencies will be present in Loftus and Skinningrove until midday today to monitor and manage the screens and flood gates if required.

A project to put up fencing around a field in Grangetown to provide a safe space for the local community and events has been abandoned due to repeated attacks by vandals.

Redcar and Cleveland Council had committed almost £60,000 towards the scheme at Kingsley Field, which is next to Greystone woods, with community organisation 'You’ve Got This' adding £40,000.

An update for members of the local authority’s growth scrutiny committee said that all the stakeholders involved had agreed to abort the project due to high levels of anti-social behaviour and vandalism.

Residents have complained of motorbikes and quad vehicles being driven onto the green space, endangering children, with a local junior football team also forced to move on as a result.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council have once again apologised after garden waste bins were not emptied in parts of our area yesterday.

Due to high levels of staff sickness and catching up on collections from previous days, garden waste bins were not been emptied in Guisborough in all areas that due for collection yesterday.

The council says it will now endeavour to service these bins first thing on Tuesday morning, and has apologised for any inconvenience this causes, and thanked residents for their patience whilst this gets sorted.
