British Steel has announced a string of consultations over its electric arc furnace plans for Teesside.

Earlier this month, the firm announced plans to bring steelmaking back to the region by constructing a furnace next to its Beam Mill at Lackenby, in Redcar.

The radical proposals, which are subject to appropriate support from the Government, would see the two furnaces come into operation by late 2025 at Teesside and Scunthorpe.

The furnaces use greener technology to melt scrap and produce new steel - but require fewer workers to keep them going than a traditional blast furnace.

Now, British Steel said it will stage four events – two each in Scunthorpe and Teesside – for people requiring more information about its plans.

A person was left "trapped" in a car after colliding with a barrier on a busy road in Nunthorpe.

At around twenty to two yesterday afternoon, police, fire, and ambulance crews were called to Guisborough Road, just outside the Nunthorpe Oaks Residential Care Home, after a vehicle crashed into a metal railing beside the road.

Pictures from the scene showed a silver Audi mounted on top of the fence.

The incident saw a large-scale emergency response, with police closing off the road outside the care home to Guisborough Road's junction with The Avenue.

Cleveland Fire Brigade confirmed that one person was freed from the vehicle and handed over to teams from the North East Ambulance Service.

The mobile Covid vaccination clinics are back in Redcar and Cleveland.

The pop-up clinic will be at Tesco on the Trunk Road at South Bank on Friday, 8 December between 10am-5pm.

All eligible groups over 18 years are welcome.

Eligible groups include people aged 65 or over, carers and those who are immunosuppressed.

No appointment is necessary, you can just drop in to receive the vaccine.
