Controversial proposals to change the car parking arrangements on Marine Parade in Saltburn have been scrapped.

Nearly 2,000 people took part in a public consultation about the proposals, which Redcar & Cleveland Council believed would improve parking arrangements and highway safety, especially during the summer.

The scheme looked to create 90-degree parking spaces to Marine Parade West, by reducing the wide footway.

But after widespread local opposition, including concerns voiced at a public meeting, the promenade car park realignment won't now take place. Some work IS still set to go ahead, though, including resurfacing the entire promenade, fixing railings and installing electric vehicle charging units.

Several arrests were made across our area yesterday as part of a crackdown by Cleveland Police on domestic abuse.

Under the Operation Artemis banner, 14 men were arrested on suspicion of various offences, including stalking, rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behaviour.

The arrests included two men in Redcar and Cleveland, with one arrested on suspicion of rape and another on suspicion of aggravated burglary. Both were taken into police custody for questioning.

The police operation coincided with 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence.

Meanwhile a new service supported by Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner Steve Turner will give extra help to victims of stalking across Cleveland.

Mr Turner's office is funding two Independent Stalking Advocates, who will form part of a service operated by national personal safety charity, the Suzy Lamplugh Trust.

The advocates will work closely with Cleveland Police, victims' services and partners to pick up referrals from the police and make sure appropriate support is in place.

And two major music events have been confirmed for Redcar beach next summer.

Beach party dance nights used to attract more than 10,000 people to Redcar before Covid, leading to hotels and B&Bs being booked out and boosting other businesses across the borough.

Now licence applications for a summer 2024 dance party, as well as a major concert, have been approved by Redcar and Cleveland Council.

The 'On The Beach Live' concert will take place on Friday July 5 and will be headlined by a well-known band, whose identity will be confirmed next week.

The following night's dance party, called Modefest, will feature internationally acclaimed DJs and dance acts.

More details about both events are expected in the coming days.
