Two local heroes were thanked by Ed Miliband MP in Parliament last night to recognise the contribution they make to our local community.

Frankie Wales who runs the Redcar Boxing Club and the Redcar Development Trust which gets hard-to-reach young people into work was thanked by Ed Miliband for his tireless hard work and the impact he made on the lives of young people.

Geraldine Williams - head coach of Grangetown Netball Team was also hailed a 'local hero' for her work building up a top division netball team in a deprived area through more than thirty years voluntary service.

They were taken to meet Ed Miliband and Shadow Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport Harriet Harman by Redcar's Labour Parliamentary Candidate Anna Turley.

Anna said: "I was so proud to take Frankie and Gel down to Parliament. Ed was really impressed with the work they both did locally and listened to their views on the importance that sport and teamwork played in transforming young people's lives."

Frankie said: "It was great to meet Ed - he was really interested in our project and keen to come and visit."

Gel said: "It was good to have the chance to talk to Ed and tell him about our experiences. Clubs like ours give young people so many different skills and can really boost self esteem for young women."
