A serious leg injury to forward Fred Woodhouse saw Marske United's North Riding Cup clash abandoned, at Whitby, last night.

Carl Jarrett's men led 5-0 against Teesside League Fishburn Park, thanks to Craig Gott's hat-trick and a brace from Joey Melvin, when Woodhouse stayed down after a challenge on 84 minutes.

St John's Ambulance staff treated the stricken striker on the field before an ambulance arrived. It is understood to be a broken leg, but a clean break.

Woodhouse was due to have an operation on Thursday with Jarrett tweeting: 'After watching @freddywood92 what he went through tonight was not nice, but he is a strong lad and will bounce back x #topplayer.'

A club statement on Thursday morning, via social media read: 'Thank you once again for all the messages of support for Fred, particuarly the players and staff at Fishburn Park.'
