A court has ordered a house in our area to be closed after reports of antisocial behaviour.

Magistrates have ordered that the rented house on Bevanlee Road in South Bank, be closed for three months and the tenants evicted after hearing reports of fights with ‘zombie’ knives, drug dealing and stolen goods.

The court was told that some of the incidents occurred in the wider area – not just the property – but that closing the house would “have a huge impact on the overall dynamics of the road.”

The application for the house closure was made to the court by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council with support from Cleveland Police and landlords of the property, Beyond Housing.

Meanwhile a rented house in Brotton has been closed by magistrates after officers from East Cleveland neighbourhood police team and the local authority presented evidence of persistent crime and antisocial behaviour to them.

Residents had complained about people coming and going to the property on Jackson Street at all hours of the day and night, knocking on their doors and causing constant nuisance.

With their support and with essential specialist input from Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s antisocial behaviour team, as well as support from Accent Housing, the partners were able to collate a large volume of evidence to present to the court.

The three-month closure order was granted on Thursday.

A number of arrests have been made following a spate of shed and garage burglaries in the Hemlington area of Middlesbrough in recent weeks.

Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Policing Team have been carrying out reassurance patrols and have now arrested two males in connection with reported incidents in the area.

Police say that their enquiries are ongoing.

Officers are continuing to raise awareness of crime prevention steps which could potentially assist in deterring potential thieves.

Crime prevention advice can be found on the Cleveland Police website.
